Sometimes, it’s the hardest thing to say. It hurts to say it. It breaks us to say it. It doesn’t feel as if it’s ringing true in our lives.
It is well.
Wouldn’t it be easier to yell out in your honest emotions of anger and hurt.
“It isn’t well, God!”
“I lost my job. My debt is too much of a burden. I can’t provide. I have no future. I lost someone who meant everything to me. I feel so alone. I am failing. My family is broken. I have no one. I’m not happy. I’m so lost. I will never win this battle…”
How do you shout out “It is well” when those aren’t the words your life is screaming?
When my life seems too hard and I can’t bare to say those three little words, I remind myself of Job.
Job lost everything.
He lost his livelihood. He lost everyone that he loved. He lost his health. He truly lost everything.
But, Job did not lose God.
And while Job was hurting and in the hardest moments of his life, he called out in praise. Job knew, it is well.
I remind myself of Jesus.
Jesus didn’t live an easy life.
Jesus was mocked. Jesus was hated. Jesus was betrayed. Jesus was beaten and then put on a cross.
And in those last moments when Jesus was alone and in pain, dying for us with the weight of sin He did not know, He called out to God. Jesus knew, it is well.
Jesus knew it was well because He had His Father.
It is well.
It is well because no matter what life throws our way we have God.
It is well because the truth we have in the blood of Jesus beats the lies satan places in our heads, that tell us we’re not good enough. The lies that tell us we’re a failure, we’re a mistake, we will never be who we want to be. The lies that say we have no future or we will never win.
It is well because the peace we have waiting for us in the Kingdom of Heaven will trump all “good things” here on Earth. It is well because our eternal home beats any home we could ever have. What God will provide beats any tangible thing we could lose here on Earth.
It is well because we can find love in the love Jesus displayed on the cross. A love so good and immeasurable, nothing compares.
It is well because God is a good, good Father. Your family may be broken but, you have the perfect love of God. You are a child of the King. You have a seat waiting for you in His house.
It is well because God will always provide. It may not be in your timing. But, God always shows up.
It is well because God is a God that holds true to His promises and His promises are abundant. It is well because God wants to show you He is faithful in those promises. God doesn’t promise that life will be easy or that following Him will make for a simple walk. But, He does promise to renew strength to the weary, give power to the weak. He promises to fight for you. He promises to walk with us in our struggles- those deep waters and high mountains, that seem impossible to pass, He’ll be there.
Pray God’s promises to Him, Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask and it will be given; Seek and you will find; Knock and the door will be opened to you.”
It is well because you are chosen and redeemed and beloved.
It is well because we serve a God that is much bigger, mightier and more powerful than our problems.
It is well because even if you have nothing, you will always have Jesus.
It is well, won’t always be easy to say. It may not be the first thing to roll off your tounge. It might not truly seem well. It may not be the first solution you think of when something goes wrong. It might not immediately become your life’s mantra…
It takes breaking down a wall of hurt, anger, sadness, loneliness, and pride to say, “It is well”…
But, remember that with God,
It is well.
